Hurrah, this is good news for youths, or anyone on a prepaid mobile service! 😀
From Friday (Jan 1 2016) onwards, Malaysian prepaid mobile users will be getting a rebate on the GST charged on prepaid reloads for a duration of one year. This will be applicable for Malaysian nationals from Jan 1 to Dec 31 2016.
Only Malaysian nationals who registered on a prepaid telco service with their MyKad, military or police identity card will be eligible for the rebate.
Let’s just say it’s a RM10 prepaid reload. The users would first get an airtime of RM9.43, with the 6% GST deducted. Then, they’d get the 57 sen rebate credited into their prepaid accounts within 24 hours.
The Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) mentioned that old reload stocks must be sold at the original price from Jan 1 and that service providers will be given 15 days to ensure that their dealers comply with the direction.
