Meet Stevo Dirnberger and Chanel Cartell, the couple who first met on a blind date in Spring 2010 and are off to accomplish only one goal, that is to see how far from home they can go.
Six months ago, they quit their jobs at two of South Africa’s top advertising agencies to wander around the world for a whole year. Not only did they leave their jobs, they also had to sell off most of their belongings and their beautiful home. Surely, they made headlines all over the globe.
For the past few months, they’ve been enjoying their journey and have been documenting every step of their way on social media. But as perfect as it looks, don’t let the beautiful images fool you. Like every other inspiring journey or story, there’s a back story to it and it isn’t always picture perfect.
On the couple’s blog, where you can find magnificent photos by Stevo, they decided to share the ugly side of their story. When they left their luxuries in Johannesburg, they had to get their hands dirty and at some point, they worked as toilet cleaners, dog poop scoopers, grocery store merchandisers and rock shovelers.
Having said that, don’t let this article crush your hopes of experiencing the unexpected beauty of travelling around the world under a budget. The couple brainstormed hard to bring them where they are now. In her own words, Chanel wrote, “It’s like heaven for us.”
