The next time you’re enjoying a margarita under the sun, you better be careful not to burn yourself. Yes, that’s totally possible.
Dubbed lime burn or phytophotodermatitis, it seems that when certain plant compounds come into contact with the skin, it makes the skin extra sensitive to ultraviolet light. Sad to say, lime juice is one of those compounds.
Now that it’s summer in many countries around the globe, some people have unfortunately gotten second degree burns from accidentally spilling their margaritas all over themselves or squeezing fresh lime juice out in the sun.
The reaction first appears as a burning rash, then it results in blistering. On top of that, the reactions may only develop in a few days time.
