Founded in 1975, TUMI celebrated 40 years of design excellence and outstanding product innovation with an exclusive 40th Anniversary event at The Gardens Mall on the 13th of April 2015.
To mark this anniversary, TUMI unveiled a limited edition collection aptly named 1975. Models paraded the collection which embodies meticulous craftsmanship and functionality, while paying homage to the brand’s heritage. The models continued to showcase TUMI’s Spring 2015 collection to the thumping tracks played by DJ Goldfish and Blink.
TUMI also took the opportunity to introduce Malaysia’s trio Global Citizens, Bryan Loo, Vincent Tan and Ryan Loo. These industry leaders and innovators were then joined by Hunny Madu, DJ Goldfish and DJ Blink. Entertaining the guests that evening was So You Think You Can Dance Season 2 winner Cecilia Yong, who presented an inspirational and enjoyable contemporary ballet performance.
Founded by Charlie Clifford, TUMI introduced stylish, functional and durable bags as well as accessories that would make life on the road more convenient. Each piece in the collection is crafted from natural, full grain cowhide leather and features TUMI’s signature ballistic nylon. Now, the brand holds over 325 design and utility patents and continues to innovate. The 11-piece 1975 collection includes an International Carry-On, Slim Brief, Rucksack Backpack and Square Duffel. Each style bears a special, limited edition embossed number.
To celebrate the special anniversary, TUMI introduced three new Asian Global Citizens from Malaysia, Hong Kong and Korea. They travel with TUMI frequently and each Global Citizen’s journey has been documented through video and was also showcased at the event. Hailing from Malaysia, Vincent Tan and brothers Ryan and Bryan Loo make up TUMI’s first Global Citizen trio.
Bryan is the CEO of Taiwanese bubble tea brand Chatime in Malaysia, while Ryan and Vincent are founders of The Capsule Hotel, a unique hospitality concept originating from the Japanese idea of living large on a tiny footprint. The trio’s latest venture is a socially responsible hotel called The Container.
To them, being a Global Citizen entails having a non-stop connection with the rest of the world and using innovative concepts to redefine modern culture. This is why having bags and travel cases that are designed to simplify their busy lives is key.
