Breakups are the worst: they’re painful and also emotionally draining. So, when you’re healing from a breakup it’s kind of ritual to eat a tub of ice cream and watch movies that will make you feel somewhat good about the ordeal you are going through.
Some of them you can really relate to because it tackles the pain and anger as well as the sadness that is taking over your entire being. Others help remind you that whatever you’re going through, it’s all eventually going to get better and that this is not the end of the world. It’s completely natural to want to curl up in your bed and just cry it out, but to help get you started on your healing process, here are some movies that you might want to watch in bed if you don’t feel like going out:
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason
I’ve gone through plenty of breakups and each time, I found myself turning to Bridget Jones. You can just relate so easily to her and all her ridiculous predicaments. If you have not seen the first one, make sure you do before watching the second one. Both are all about relationships and the struggles that Bridget goes through to find and keep the right man. Both are equally inspiring and perfect for you to watch during this hard time.
Under The Tuscan Sun
This movie is one of the best breakup movies ever and Diane Lane is absolutely inspiring in this tale of finding yourself after being broken-hearted. The fact that it’s set in Tuscany, Italy should be somewhat healing because the sceneries are breathtaking. This movie will inspire you to want to get out of your pajamas, dress up, and perhaps even travel to somewhere foreign. Diane Lane’s character may have ran all the way to Italy and bought a villa, but even if you can’t do the same, you can just live vicariously through her character in this movie.
The First Wives Club
No list of breakup movies would be complete without this classic that stars Goldie Hawn, Bette Middler and Diane Keaton. This is definitely something you should be watching when going through a breakup, because it’s a tale about revenge and sisters just doing it for themselves. This movie will also remind you that with a little help from your good friends, you can go through just about anything. It will help you realise that you shouldn’t just sit there and take being dumped. You should get up and do something about it.
Diary of a Mad Black Woman
Tyler Perry’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman is a more serious breakup movie. There is something about the darkness of this movie that may help everyone who’s going through a really tough breakup. What this movie did for me was it reminded me that even though when things are hard and seem somewhat hopeless, you should never give up. You should always be strong, courageous and have the kind of resilience that no man can ever take away from you.
The Other Boleyn Girl
Not your average breakup movie choice for sure, but this tale of two sisters and Henry Tudor is just so riveting. It has betrayal, heartache, hope and above all, love. Not necessarily love for a man for but more so love for yourself. I absolutely loved Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal as Mary Boleyn. This tale will help you get back on your feet because it teaches you that no matter what a man does to hurt you, you can always bounce back from it.
The Holiday
This movie with Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black will make you feel as though you have traveled to a different place to get over your horrid breakup. The whole plot of this movie is incredible because it involves two ladies, both going through heartache, swapping houses and eventually finding love in the most unexpected of people and places. Both Jude Law and Jack Black’s characters are so charming that it can’t help to get you all hopeful for your future man to be the same way.
He’s Just Not That Into You
If this movie teaches us anything, it’s that us women sometimes make up a lot of things in our head about certain situations with guys and that we have a really hard time when it comes to letting go. This movie can help you understand why certain things may have gone wrong and perhaps even change the way you think about guys.
