I love cool little experiments, especially ones that focus on intimacy between two people, which is exactly what The New York times published last month. The article talked about an experiment that’s been carried out where two people are made to look into each other’s eyes for four whole minutes, totally uninterrupted.
According to a theory, when two people stare at each other in the eyes for four minutes, they will feel closer and more connected at the end of it. It doesn’t even matter what the state of their relationship is prior to the experiment.
Inspired by the article, YouTube’s SoulPancake decided to test out the theory for themselves and got six couples to participate. There were a pair of strangers, a couple that’s on their fourth date and a couple that’s been married for 55 years.
Each couple were then asked to sit in a room by themselves and look into each other’s eyes for four whole minutes. At the end of the four minutes, each couple was surprised by the results.
One woman said to her husband of 55 years, “In 55 years of marriage, we’ve never really looked into each other’s eyes like that”
Her husband then responded with, “When I look at you really closely, I realize how much I need you and what you mean to me, because that’s the truth. I couldn’t imagine being with anybody else.”
