Well, this is definitely big news. Disney fans, I hope you’re sitting down because have we got some announcement to make!
The mouse house recently announced that they will be introducing their first ever Latina Disney princess! She will be called Princess Elena of Avalor and is set to appear on the small screen in 2016.
Fans will get to see Elena making her first appearance on Sofia the First, a program that caters to preschoolers on Disney Junior. She will later on get a spin-off series of her own called Elena of Avalor.
The Latina Princess Elena has been described as “a confident and compassionate teenager in an enchanted fairytale kingdom inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore.” She will be voiced by Aimee Carrero, a Dominican Republic-born actress.
While this is a major step for Disney, there’s still a long way to go as we are hoping a Latina princess will have her own feature film.
