Meet Eclipse, the black labrador that will get on the public bus to ride to the dog park if her owner takes too long to finish a cigarette.
“She sits here just like a person does,” said one rider. “She’s a person. And all the bus driver’s know her.”
Eclipse is a black lab/bull mastiff mix and when on the bus she will usually prop herself up next to a stranger and wait until her stop comes. That’s when she gets off and enjoy her day at the dog park.
“She gets on and off by herself,” said one passenger, Miles Montgomery. “She was most concerned about seeing out the window.
“And I thought, man oh man, this is nuts. The dog gets off at the stop and the dog park and gets of the bus, and I just look out the window and I’m like, did that just happen?” he said.
Of course, this didn’t start out intentionally and it began as a total accident. “She’s been urbanized, totally,” said Jeff Young, the owner. “She’s a bus-riding, side-walk walking dog.”
It started with their trips to the dog park and before getting on the bus, Young usually lights up a cigarette and if the bus got there before he was done then Eclipse would take it into her own paws and take off without him!
“We get separated,” said Young. “She gets on the bus without me. And I catch up with her at the dog park.”
Isn’t that just the most adorable thing?
