For the first time, Enfusion Reality will feature an All-Females Edition where 18 female fighters from around the world gather at the beautiful Island of Koh Samui to fight for the number one spot in the 54KG division. The female fighters will be divided into 4 teams and each team will be coached by a top male heavyweight fighter to take on the weekly challenges.
Watching girls take control in self defence and martial arts like Muay Thai is a great way to inspire us to be more in charge of our safety (especially with recent frightening cases like girls getting slashed and attacked).
One of the contestants, Soraya Haurissa, is half Asian and is a crowd favourite for the win. Lipstiq recently had the opportunity to interview her and here’s what she had to say:
1. These days with the increase of female MMA fighters, it comes with a stereotype. What sets you apart from other female MMA fighters? My true dedication to the game and the support of my parents. It makes it possible to live my life for the sport, in other words, I’m living my dream and not someone else’s plan for me.
2. How did you fall in love with a sport like MMA?
(Laughs) During my first MMA class, it just hit me, like literally. Kinda like love at first sight.
3. Describe yourself in 3 words. Opinionated, direct, and sweet
4. Sweet?
(Laughs) Yeah I’m pretty sweet for an MMA fighter.
5. Speaking of sweet, we heard you had to stay in Koh Samui, Thailand for training throughout Enfusion Reality. That sounds pretty sweet to us!
It was definitely! Training in Samui was a beautiful experience. I’ve also managed to learn a lot from other fighters while basking in Samui’s majestic view, cultural experiences, amazing people and of course the beautiful weather!
6. Fighting seems like a dream to you. But honestly, did it ever get too tough for you that you felt like giving up? Sure, sometimes you train hard and you get hit too many times then feel like giving up. What I try to do is make some time for myself, have a bit of fun and get back in the ring.
7. What is your most memorable fight?
My memorable fight was when I made my first Knockout against a girl from TB DenHaag I can’t recall her name. This was for the Dutch title and I remember I did it within 30 secs!
8. We did a bit of research and found out that you’re trained professionally in Muay Thai (Thai Boxing). Among all the martial arts you’ve tried, would you say Muay Thai is your favourite? Personally, I prefer kick boxing on K1 rules. I mean come out, you’ve trained so hard to enter a fight to end up cuddling in each others necks (the way MMA fights end).
9.Who is your role-model?
Mohammed Jaraya (Enfusion TV fighter), Because I love his fighting style!
Enfusion Reality : Ladies Edition will be aired Jan 19, Monday 9pm on KIX HD Astro Channel 729.
