A mud flood has hit Cameron Higlands’ Bertam Valley yesterday evening and one person was reportedly killed while another was missing.
Earlier this morning, a second victim was found dead – the victims are believed to be a 45-year-old Indonesian national and a 13-year-old Malaysian. The search and rescue operations headed by the Fire and Rescue Department, known as Storm has 20 personnel and operations began at 7am this morning to located the victims, believed to be buried under the mud.
The disaster also submerged 20 houses in the town of Ringlet, Ringlet New Village and Kampung Ulu Merah Ringlet. Several vehicles were also washed away.
According to Pahang Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Morni Mamat, several people were also injured in the incident. Due to continuous heavy downpour, water levels rose at the Ringlet river and breached its banks around 7pm last night, causing the mud flood.
