The young people of Kuala Lumpur are compulsively obsessed with posting artsy photos of food and coffee on social media, hence, we believe that this phenomenon has led to the recent flourishing of cafes around the city. One after another, neighbourly and quirky cafes are popping up everywhere. Yes, there is indeed a market for F&B businesses such as these, but with such great competition, how does a cafe stand out to attract more of the #cafehopping crowd? Well, there are cafes that’re just like any other, and on the other hand, there are cafes like Pretz n’ Beanz.
Previously called Chilla Cup, Pretz n’ Beanz Cafe is the latest addition to the Chilla Cup Group and it’s located strategically at Mont Kiara. The cafe primarily highlights its freshly brewed coffee and a standout, signature pretzel-infused menu. Now, this pretzel-infused menu really caught our attention as this is the first cafe in Kuala Lumpur to have come up with such a thing.
Aside from its regular signature pretzels, Pretz n’ Beanz Cafe offers one-of-a-kind pretzel pizza and filled pretzels. After we had a look at the menu, we were genuinely impressed. Besides the pretzel foods, the cafe also offers a huge variety of things to try, such as waffles, thick toast, sandwiches, an extensive all-day dining selection, and not forgetting, a range of breakfast favourites.
We love how this cafe caters to a wide group of people and whether you’re only looking for a cuppa, a wholesome breakkie, a good and satisfying lunch, a midday snack, or a memorable dinner, Pretz n’ Beanz just sounds like the perfect place to be.
We also got the chance to try some of Pretz n’ Beanz Cafe’s best-selling foods, so scroll down to find out what we thought!
Caramel Butter Thick Toast (RM13.90) – This is meant for sharing and it’s absolutely decadent. The toast is generously buttered, slightly crunchy on the crust and soft on the inside. We enjoyed every bit of this as the cream and caramel wasn’t too sweet, and the salt from the butter balanced out the flavours perfectly.
Spicy Seafood Pasta (RM24.90) – Don’t be deceived by the looks of this pasta! Even though it is tomato-based, it wasn’t sour and the tomato flavour wasn’t overpowering. There was a generous amount of seafood in one plate and the spiciness bumped up the flavours in the pasta. This is served all day at Pretz n’ Beanz Cafe.
Chicken Hawaiian Pretzel Pizza (RM20.90) – This looks like a regular pizza, but it isn’t one. Instead of normal pizza dough, this pizza has a pretzel dough base that’s softer, a tiny bit sweet, and just as satisfying. To be honest, we’d very much prefer this compared to a pan pizza. The pretzel dough base is less dense and more fluffy, so the pizza isn’t too filling. With every bite, we could also taste the freshness of the ingredients as the pizzas are made-to-order.
Hot Pepper Chilli Chicken Pretzel Pizza (RM20.90) – Comparing both the pizzas, we preferred this Hot Pepper Chilli Chicken one better. The Chicken Hawaiian was good too, but this one was extra tasty and satiating, possibly because it was spicy. The best part about a pretzel pizza is that you wouldn’t get hard pizza crusts! We’d say try both if you visit the cafe.
Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel (RM5.90) – The size of this pretzel is larger compared to many others in the market and it’s worth the price you’re paying. The pretzel is soft and fluffy, and makes a great midday snack to accompany your cuppa. This one was delightful and the cinnamon wasn’t too strong.
Basil Cheese Pretzel (RM6.90) – We thoroughly enjoyed this pretzel! It was satisfyingly savoury, and it tastes even better when you get to the cheesy and salty bits. If savoury foods are your thing, you NEED to try this out.
Cheesy Chilli Chicken Filled Pretzel (RM12.90) – This unique pretzel has filling in it and you can totally share this with one or two people. It kind of looks like a pea pod and it holds a ton of filling in the pretzel. This Cheesy Chilli Chicken one tasted somewhat like the Hot Pepper Chilli Chicken Pretzel Pizza, but it is lighter in flavour.
Pretz n’ Beanz Cafe is definitely a must-visit in our books. With the plethora of cafes booming at hotspots all around Kuala Lumpur, Pretz n’ Beanz really does have something special to offer. Instead of just coffees, cakes and a selection of breakfast favourites, the pretzels and pretzel-based foods here provide a niche in the market. Whether you’re with your family or a group of friends, the cosy setting here is a comfortable place to just chill out, get some work done, or grab a bite.
