[WEEK 1] My Journey with Celebrity Fitness’ “Dare Your Friend” Challenge

by Sarah Low

My name is Sarah and I am a participant of the “Dare Your Friend” challenge by Celebrity Fitness. This fitness journey that I am currently embarking on is something that is extremely personal to me and at times, rather embarrassing due to my drastic weight gain. Yet, I would like to share it with anyone who has ever been in a similar situation. In the next few weeks, I will be documenting my journey here on Lipstiq. Let’s start with a bit of my background, shall we?

That’s me, back in 2009

All my life I have always struggled with my weight. Despite being a ballerina and rhythmic gymnast during my school days, I was always labeled as “fat” or “chubby”. Often, I was always teased by my friends with names such as “fatty bom bom” and “fatty girl”.

If there’s one thing I love about myself, it would be the fact that I am extremely kiasu (afraid of loosing). The day I completed high school, I walked out of school, turned back and said “One day, I will be a contestant in a Miss Malaysia pageant and all of you will REGRET it!”

Lo and behold, a couple of years later I was a finalist in not ONE but TWO of Malaysia’s top beauty pageants – Miss Malaysia World 2009 and Miss Malaysia Earth 2013.

Because of my unhealthy binge diets, after loosing weight, I would instantly pack on the pounds (and even more) when I go off my diets.

I cannot deny my love for food. I am Malaysian after all. Before I knew it, in June 2014, I was a whooping 62kg!!! My love for rich, extravagant food did not help either.

Dude, are you kidding me? For someone who is 165cm in height, I was at my heaviest ever! I put on a total of 7kgs since my weight of 54kg during the Miss Malaysia Earth pageant last year. Thank God nobody asked me if I was pregnant…

At the end of June, I decided this was it and started to cut my food portions and eat healthy.

On my own, I started regular exercises such as yoga and aerobics.

I figured that it wasn’t enough and needed to be more disciplined. So in July 2014, I signed up for a 1 year VIP passport membership with Celebrity Fitness. Considering my work in Sales and my active social life, I’m always here and there so I decided that the VIP membership was the best choice as it allowed me the flexibility to go to the gym in Puchong (where I live) and in KL & PJ (where I work and usually have client meetings).

I’m proud to say in a period of 7-8 weeks of healthy eating and regular exercises, I have lost 5.5kgs so far!!!

There’s 6 more weeks to go for the #cf5stardare challenge and I’m pretty sure that I’ll achieve  my Sports Illustrated model body by then. Wish me luck!

P.S. Come say hi when you see me running around at Celebrity Fitness 🙂
