This is more than just an Ice Bucket Challenge video.
Some of us are annoyed with the trending gimmick but there are others who support it because it is after all, for a good cause. But I personally think that we have all lost sight on why this movement began in the first place. Meet Anthony Carbajal, who decided to put on a pair of bikini while doing the Ice Bucket Challenge. But most importantly, hear what he has to say.
The 26-year-old, who was recently diagnosed with ALS, breaks down in tears in this video as he explains the frightening reality of the disease. Because pharmaceutical companies can’t make money off patients who die two to five years after developing the condition, there is no reason for them to develop a better treatment, he says.
Carbajal says, “nobody wants to see a depressing person that’s dying. They don’t want to talk about it. They don’t want their day ruined. People are getting frustrated about seeing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge right now and that’s fine, that’s fine. It means our awareness is working.”
We ask you to take a moment and watch what the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge means to Carbajal.
