Here’s some bad news for those of you who are phobic to germs… Some of your favourite beauty items are completely covered in bacteria.

Sure, you can always have a bottle of hand sanitizer at hand but we decided to pick out some of our daily beauty items to find out which ones hold the most bacteria. Check out our list below to see what products you’re using each day that may need some cleaning:

Hair Irons (Flat or Curling)
We all seem to remember to apply plenty of hair products before we iron down our tresses, but do we keep it in mind to wipe down the iron after use? The amount of accumulated oil and what not on the iron is a heaven for bacteria to live in.

Loofah
These guys may look pretty in their bright colours and are actually very useful, but they’re like a petri dish that promotes growth of bacteria and mould, especially when you keep your loofah in the shower. Ladies, the best tool to wash yourself with is your own hands.

Bar of Soap
Why are you still using these? Switch to shower gels already! For the reason that bar soaps don’t completely dry between each use, nasty germs collect at the bottom of the soap.

Mascara
If you don’t already know, the mascara brush is a fantastic breeding ground for bacteria. Also, it would be good to swap your mascara for a new one every three months.

Razors
These things come in contact with our body hair, oil and sometimes even blood, which is a good reason why you should not be sharing razors. It would also be wise to change the blades after two or three uses. You can always buy disposable ones and toss them out after a shave or two.

Lipstick
Food remnants tend to stay on lipsticks especially when you reapply some on your lips, and they can also turn to bacteria. So, it’s always good to wash your mouth and wipe it clean before reapplying your lippie.

Bath Towels
Even though we use these towels to dry off, they tend to stay wet for a while and sometimes, don’t completely dry before the next time we use them. Such a thing can lead to gross things like mildew and bacteria, which you will be wiping all over your body. That’s just fun, isn’t it?
