Uh-oh.
News reports on the recent Indonesian presidential election were plagiarised by National news agency Bernama from the Jakarta Globe.
“Thank you for your concern. We are doing an internal investigation on the matter. We in Bernama do not condone plagiarism,” tweeted @bernamadotcom, the agency’s official Twitter account in response to a question.
So what were the articles plagiarised? According to the Jakarta Globe, two articles titled In Closing Debate, Joko Promises Bureaucratic ‘Breakthrough’ and Prabowo Strives for ‘A Dignified Nation were published on July 5, the daily claimed that Bernama had published similar articles with the same titles on the following day.
Bernama journalist, Elmi Rizal Alias, removed the names of the original authors. Supposedly, this was not the first time that its article was duplicated.
On July 1, it uploaded an article on its website titled Hatta Says Indonesia Should Take Advantage of its ‘Demographic Bonus’, and the same story was found on Bernama’s website with a slightly altered title.
