It really does not get any more royal than the Queen of England visiting the set of Game of Thrones.
On June 24th, Queen Elizabeth II headed to Belfast (or known as Westeros in the famous series) as part of her Northern Ireland tour. The Queen, along with Prince Philip visited cast members and props from the series, including the well-known iron throne. While spectators waited and wished for Queen Elizabeth to sit on it, she didn’t but instead just stared at.
To be fair, had she sat on the majestic prop, the internet would have gone crazy and given birth to so many memes.
The official monarchy social media channel shared the photo above, captioning: “The#IronThrone as you’ve never seen it before… @GameofThrones”
A few of the cast members were also present to greet Her Majesty, which includes, co-creators and executive producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss, Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and Rose Leslie (Ygritte). It seems that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip are pretty funny because Kit was caught smiling!
