A zonkey is now a thing!
The animal – which is a rare cross between a zebra and a donkey – was born at a zoo in the northern state of Tamaulipas in Mexico.
The story about how this animal came about is actually pretty sweet. A female zebra named Rayas from the Reynosa Zoo in Northern Mexico used to visit her friend Ignacio, a dwarf, blue-eyed albino donkey that lived on a nearby farm. Well, obviously the two eventually went from being friends to more than friends because later, Khumba the calf was born!
Khumba measures 70 centimetres and weighs 26 kilograms. It has the characteristics of a typical donkey in its upper body, but has the traditional stripes of a zebra on its legs.
How adorable!
