Two-year-old Mackenzie Camp would have been mauled to death by a pitbull last month if her mother hadn’t fought the vicious dog off her, biting off the animal’s ear and shoving her fist inside its mouth.

The toddler’s face was covered in horrific bite marks after her mother’s boyfriend’s dog attacked her on March 31 at home in Texas.

Her mother, Chelsi Camp, 23, said that the dog is normally friendly, but became aggressive when it sniffed her dog on Mackenzie at about 8.45 am that day.

She dialled 911 immediately, but physically intervened after that. She didn’t have the strength to simply pull the dog away so she rammed her fist between the dog’s jaws and clamped her teeth on its ear, severing the dog completely.

Camp did all this while shouting to her daughter to turn onto her stomach so she wouldn’t choke on blood.

“You do whatever you can. I don’t have physical strength at my side,” she said.

When the police arrived, a bloody Camp was seen curled up while shielding her daughter in the bathroom, where the dog was ready to pounce once more.

The animal was shot at once and later, animal control euthanized the pitbull.

The little girl’s injuries were so severe that she had to be airlifted to the hospital. Upon arrival, she was rushed to surgery and doctors operated on her for about seven hours.

She is currently healing slowly at home with her mother, who injured her hands and arms during the incident.

The poor girl was so traumatized by the attack that members of her family say she doesn’t even remember it happening. Doctors advised her to stay away from direct sunlight for at least one year so that her scars can heal as soon as possible.
