Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said statements have been recorded from 260 individuals to assist in police investigations regarding the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370.
He mentioned that investigations were still ongoing and many more would be called up to provide their statements.
“I am sorry because I cannot give you anything on the recovery of the plane so far. First, because it is related to a criminal investigation. Secondly, when we say something, people will resort to speculation. So, it is best we continue our investigations until we are ready to make announcements to the public,” he said.
Khalid was talking to reporters after attending a pinning-of-the-rank ceremony of the Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR) Unit in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday where police volunteer Paul Lajumin was promoted to the rank of Superintendent.
He said these investigations had been classified as a criminal case under Section 130 (c) under Penal Code which covered investigations into any elements of sabotage, hijacking and more.
However, Khalid said that the main highlight was on finding the plane.
