Sex is energetic, hot, and everything nice. There are not enough words to describe the exhilarating moment of getting intimate with someone, especially with someone you love. But if you thought that the only benefit of sex is pleasure, we’ve got some news for you. Having sex is great for adults, and doing it on the daily is even better!

According to science, sex has numerous benefits for both your mental and physical health. Without further ado, here are some reasons why you should boink on the daily!

Lowers Stress

Stressed out with work? Don’t let it affect your performance in the bedroom! Sex and orgasms have been shown to reduce stress and anxiety in human and animal studies. That’s because during sex your body releases endorphins and oxytocin, and these feel-good hormones create feelings of relaxation and intimacy. So have sex, relax, and take your mind off everyday worries and anxieties.

Good Sleep

Having regular, satisfying sex can facilitate better sleep. Since after an orgasm, our body releases feel good hormones, which can help with sleep. Studies showed that these hormonal changes can cause drowsiness and make it easier to fall asleep. However, if you don’t have a partner, this effect can also occur with masturbation. According to research, around 50% of both men and women say that an orgasm from masturbation helps improve their sleep quality.

Keeps You Young

The after-sex glow is real, just look at the research! Maintaining an active sex life throughout adulthood not only helps you feel young in spirit, the estrogen production will also promote healthy aging of the skin. One study of over 3,500 men and women found that those who had sex 3 times a week appeared 7 to 12 years younger than their actual age, in comparison to the control group which was doing it twice a week.

Lowers Prostate Cancer Risk

If you needed one more reason to jump your guy tonight, lowering their risk of prostate cancer is a pretty solid one. According to a study, men who ejaculated more than 20 times per month reduced their prostate cancer risk by 20%, compared to ejaculating only four to seven times per month. One possible explanation for why frequent ejaculation may help protect against prostate cancer is that it may help clear substances that may cause cancer from the prostate.

Relieves Pain

Girls, we all know that period cramps can be a b*tch to deal with! Having sex can actually ease down your pain. While it may be uncomfortable for some, there’s no harm in trying (you have a lower risk of getting pregnant, so don’t stress too much about it!). But, if you’re really uncomfortable in engaging in period sex, you can also just try to give yourself an orgasm to get rid of period pain.

Improves Heart Health

Just like any other physical activity, sex is good for the heart. A study showed that men who had sex twice weekly or more had less risk of cardiovascular diseases such as stroke or heart attack, compared to those who have sex once a month or less. This is because during sexual intercourse, you tend to breathe intensely, which acts as a form of respiratory exercise and makes your heart function better. After all, it’s better than getting on a treadmill, amirite?
