According to a peer-reviewed study published in the book Jockocracy: Queering Masculinity and Sport, men check out each other’s penises in the locker room. Yes, that’s right ladies!
One-hour interviews were conducted by Christopher Morriss-Roberts, Ph.D. with eight male athletes from around London – four heterosexual and four homosexual men – to identify if penis size affects male behaviour in a locker room. Although it’s a small study, it turns out that all the participants checked each other out below the belt when they’re in the locker room.
Morriss-Roberts details that this gazing wasn’t out of sexual attraction, but it was actually a way to compare themselves with the other players in terms of actual size and masculinity. Most of the guys claimed they actually discussed about their junk in the locker room, highlighting sizes and also coming up with nicknames for each other’s penis.
Additionally, men with the biggest packages were idolised by the others and are seen as more masculine. Apparently, penises were a conversation starter and a topic they could bond over. Seriously?
Obviously, with the tiny sample size, we cannot say that ALL men do this. It’s an interesting insight to how men interact with one another though!
Who knew so much penis talk goes on? Can we join in? 😉
