It might not be totally over, but the Dengue statistic has been dropping. The massive exercise to combat dengue is bearing fruit with the number of cases dropping since February, said Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya. “There were 1,600 cases this month as of March 8 compared to 2,000 cases until the last week of February,” he told Su Keong Siong (DAP – Ipoh Timur),
Dr Hilmi said there was an average of 2,400 cases each week in February, adding that efforts would continue to reduce the number of cases and deaths. He also said 20,066 cases and 44 deaths have been reported this year as of Mar 9.
The number of cases and deaths, he said had increased due to a change in the variation of the dengue virus. He added the current serotype DEN-2 has been reported to be more virulent.
