Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel has announced on Monday, March 10th, 2014 that all areas in Selangor are banned from open burning with immediate effect until further notice.
He however, said that the banning does not include cremation, burnings related to religion, grills or barbecues and gas flaring.
“Following this, all parties are advised not to engage in open burning or allow their land or premises to be trespassed by any irresponsible parties leading to open burning either intentionally or unintentionally,” he said in a statement here.
The minister also said that anyone found guilty of open burning could be punished with a sentencing for five years in jail or fined of a maximum of RM500,000 or both.
He also encourages the public throughout the country to cooperate and put out small fires as well as report any cases of open burning or fire to the Fire and Rescue Department by calling 999 and the Department of Environment at the toll free number 1-800-88-2727.
