We’ve all heard how sugar can negatively affect our bodies and this includes weight gains and heart diseases. But Neouroscientist Nicole Avena believes that sugar affects your brain first, and then your body.
In her TED-ed animated video, Avena explains that the taste of sugar on our tongue triggers the “rewards system” in our cerebral cortex. This in turn releases dopamine in our brains, which then tells us that sugar makes us feel good, and this can actually be quite addictive.
The video is a detailed, yet simple method of telling us that our cravings are mostly all in the head, and like drugs and alcohol, they can also create a sense of euphoria.
Here are some tips to help you control your sugar cravings.
