Victoria state police reported that a Taiwanese tourist fell off the St. Kilda’s pier in Australia because she was distracted by her Facebook feed.
It is learnt that the woman was walking along the Port Phillip’s Bay in Melbourne on a Monday night, she then walked right off the pier and fell into the chilly waters while browsing through her Facebook feed on her phone.
Police rushed to her rescue after a witness called for help and found her floating in the water about 65 feet (20 meters) from the pier.
Senior Constable Dean Kelly of the state water police told the Australian Broadcasting Corp, “She was still out in the water lying on her back floating position because she told us later that she couldn’t swim.”
“If you’re anywhere near the water just pay attention. Especially if you can’t swim,” Kelly continued.
According to the statement released by the Victoria police, there was no need for a lost property report because the Taiwanese tourist “kept hold of her mobile phone throughout the entire ordeal”.
“She still had her mobile phone in her hand and initially she apologized and said sorry,” Kelly added.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
