Just last month, the 36-year-old lead singer from Lostprophets, Ian Watkins, pleaded guilty to 13 child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby. He admitted to “three counts of sexual assault involving children and six involving taking, making or possessing indecent images of children and one of possessing an extreme pornographic image involving a sex act on an animal”.
It is learnt that his case was not sent to trial and he has been sentenced to 35 years in jail on Wednesday, December 18th, 2013. According to BBC, he will serve 29 years in prison and will be under police supervision for his remaining sentence. He will only be up for parole after serving two-thirds of the sentence.
On the other hand, his two female co-defendants who pleaded guilty to various sex offences against their own children were sentenced to 14 years and 17 years in jail respectively.
The judge fronted Ian Watkins saying:
“You had many fawning fans that gave you power. You knew you could use that power to induce young female fans to…help satisfy your insatiable lust and take part in the sexual abuse of their own children. Away from the highlights of your public performances lay a dark and sinister side.”
It was reported that the Detective Chief Inspector Peter Doyle named Watkins as a “committed, organized paedophile,” who has shown “no empathy, no sympathy or any remorse.”
Telegraph also reported that he has sexually groped a fan’s baby and attempted to rape the child. He also tried convincing groupies to abuse her child during a webcam chat.
When Ian Watkins spoke to a female fan in prison after being there for two days, he stated:
“I’m going to put out a statement on the 18th just to say it was mega lolz. I do not know what everybody is getting so freaked out about. It was like either I go up there and say: ‘Come on it was not that bad. Nobody got hurt,’ [or] try to win them over with my charm.”
According to Telegraph, his lawyer attempted to argue in court that his defendant had “unraveled” because of drug use and was pressured by his celebrity fame.
