The number of dengue cases have increased drastically to 1,680 cases from 1,142 cases, and makes the highest record of increment with 272 cases recorded from October 22nd to 26th this year. According to the Health Ministry, the number shows a 58% increase compared to last year’s figures.
The Health Ministry is concerned as average weekly cases have increased to more than twice of last year’s average figures from 400 to more than 900. In addition to that, Selangor was reported to have had the most dengue cases which are 323 out of the 408 cases.
The Health Ministry deputy director for public health Datuk Dr Lokman Hakin Sulaiman urged Malaysians to cooperate with relevant agencies to destroy mosquito breeding areas.
Hence, we suggest five easy steps you can take to wipe out those annoying mosquitoes:
- Change the water in all storage cases and bowls around your home on alternate days.
- Remove the water collected on all flower pot saucers on alternate days.
- Turn over all water storage containers.
- Cover bamboo pole holders when not in use.
- Clear blockages and place some insecticide in the gutters of the roof monthly.
