BMW Group Malaysia has just unveiled the all-new generation premium compact executive BMW 4 Series Coupẻ which delivers even more power, style and sportiness. The automaker’s latest mid-sized sports coupẻ was introduced in two variants of the BMW 428i Coupẻ and BMW 435i Coupẻ.
What sets the BMW 4 (the “4” in its title represents a new era) Series Coupẻ apart is that it is the only car with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission in its segment. The car also comes in a visibly larger width, wheelbase and a dynamic stretched out coupé silhouette that sits noticeably lower on the road which delivers increased output and efficiency.
Compared to the previous generation BMW 3 Series Coupẻ, the BMW 4 Series Coupẻ is visibly sportier with a length of 4,638mm, width of 1,825mm, height of 1,362mm and a wheelbase of 2,810mm, making it appear even lower and more elongated. Additionally, its rear and front track has also been extended on top of its muscular, flared wheel arches which further accentuates the coupé’s rear-wheel drive concept. This appearance also marks the first time a BMW has had the widest area of its body near the rear-axle.
The other features on its exterior include the BMW signature short overhangs, long bonnet and a cabin that is offset towards the rear. Other new elements on its exterior include the Air Breathers positioned rearwards of the front wheel arches and the Air Curtains to reduce drag considerably around the wheel arches.
The BMW 428i Coupẻ comes with the Sport Line with an optional M Sport package as an upgrade. The Sport Line features 18” Double-spoke light alloy wheels with M Sport suspension and black high-gloss mirror caps. On the other hand, the BMW 435i Coupẻ is available with the M Sport package featuring 19” BMW M Double-spoke light-alloy wheels and an adaptive M suspension, electrical glass roof as well as a comfort access system.
Finally, new touches to the design include L-shaped taillights and rear lights that continue the sweep of the shoulder line on the sides of the car to create a melodious transition into the rear, the hallmark Hofmeister kink at the bottom of the C-pillar and a standard B-pillar in high-gloss black.
Besides featuring the multi-award winning BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters, the Coupé also comes with BMW EfficientDynamics features such as the latest sailing function and Route-Ahead Assistant to achieve exceptional acceleration and significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
The BMW 428i Coupẻ comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and delivers a maximum output of 180 kW / 245 horsepower with torque peaking at 350 Nm; enabling it to sprint from 0-100 km/h in only 5.8 seconds at a top speed of 250 km/h. In terms of consumption, the car needs 6.4 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres and CO2emissions are only 149 grams per kilometre.
On the other hand, the BMW 435i Coupẻ boasts 225 kW / 306 horsepower from a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line petrol engine, with a peak torque of 400 Nm; allowing it to sprint from 0-100 km/h in only 5.1 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h and records fuel savings of 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres with C02 emissions of a mere 172 grams per kilometre.
The BMW 4 Series Coupẻ also offers drivers a fuel-efficient style of driving by switching to the ECO PRO mode with the Driving Experience Control button. The ECO PRO mode also now features a new sailing function which will disengage the engine from the drivetrain at speeds between 50 and 160 km/h when the driver lifts the foot off the accelerator pedal, thus allowing the car to save on fuel consumption while coasting.
Using the data from the Navigation System Professional’s latest Route-Ahead Assistant, the vehicle is able to recognize bends, city, town and village boundaries as well as speed restrictions to pre-warn drivers on reducing the throttle in advance. The ECO PRO route also allows drivers to save an additional five percent of fuel, depending on their individual style of driving.
Drivers with unique sporting ambition can opt for the M Sport suspension with stiffer spring, damper and stabiliser tuning on the BMW 428i Coupẻ. Meanwhile, the Adaptive M Suspension with electronically controlled dampers is available on the BMW 435i Coupẻ and as a part of the M Sport package for the BMW 428i Coupẻ. In addition, the M Sport brakes, which are fitted on the BMW 435i Coupẻ, will make for even more sporting ability by using fixed aluminium callipers with four pistons at the front, and two at the back to minimise stopping distances.
The interior of the all-new BMW 4 Series Coupẻ contains an ergonomic cockpit design, featuring contoured seats with integrated headrests at the back – making the rear seats appear like individual seats -, coupled with an electric seatbelt handover. Additionally, electric tailgate operation is featured to allow comfortable luggage compartment access with a total of 445 litres.
Further enhancing its sporty interior is the BMW Individual Anthracite and Leather Dakota headliner upholstery. The interior trim of the BMW 428i Coupẻ Sport Line is accentuated in high-gloss black with highlight trim finishers of Coral Red matt and a sports leather steering wheel whereas the BMW 435i Coupẻ M Sport’s interior trim is complimented by Aluminium Hexagon with highlight trim finishers in Estoril Blue matt and an M Sport leather steering wheel.

Completing the in-car connectivity are the USB and Bluetooth features as well as BMW Live, which is a web-based mobility service accessible via smartphones. BMW Apps can also be accessed through a smartphone which provides direct connection to web radio, Facebook and Twitter. Other features include a HiFi loudspeaker system with nine speakers, while the BMW 435i Coupẻ continues to deliver the ultimate driving experience with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound system.
