Latest reports on the apocalypse are in! This time, it’s not confirmed by the Mayans but by actual astronomers. Earlier this year, the Mayans were somehow inaccurate with their date but latest reports have validated that a whopping 410-meter-wide (1,350 foot) minor planet, labelled as ‘Asteroid 2013 TV135‘ could hit earth in 20 years from now on.
According to the International Astronomer Union’s Minor Planet Centre, this discovery was made by the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in southern Ukraine. This new finding was then confirmed by five more astronomy groups from Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Russia’s Siberian Republic of Buryatia, predicting that the asteroid is right on track to hit us on the 26th of August 2032. Freaked out yet?
Scientists are still sceptical about the news, but if it does hit us, the approximated impact of the asteroid will be comparable to 2,500 megatons of TNT, or more clearly, 50 times greater than the biggest nuclear bomb ever detonated.
Watch the video below for a further explanation on the giant asteroid that is about to hit us:
