A 15-year old French girl was killed by a shark while swimming in off the Indian Ocean island of Reunion, located off the coast of Madagascar.
The teenager who was on holiday, was attacked in the afternoon while swimming just five meters from the shore. Her body was sliced in two at the torso. The girl, who was only named as “Sarah” by French media, was swimming with another girl when the attack happened.
Gina Hoarau, head of public safety on the island said, “a part of her body was taken away by the shark”.
She added that the girls were in an area of St Paul bay where she would have died instantly.
“The operation to recover the upper part of her body is ongoing”.
‘Sarah’ lived with her mother in France, but was on vacation with her father, who is the head of a yacht club in St. Paul.
