One of the best ways to have your friends come together and still keep costs to a minimum is throwing a house party. Don’t worry about having to spend a bomb for decorations that’ll give your place the right kind of ambience, because simple things like empty jars and bits and pieces of papers can be used for this purpose.

Here are so simple tips and tricks that won’t break your party planning budget when it comes to decorating your house for a fun get-together!

1. Candle Jars

Use empty jam glass jars or old drinking glasses you have stored in your kitchen cabinets or store rooms. Place tea candles in them (they’re cheap and come in a bag of 10s or 20s) to light up a garden dinner party. It’s one of the oldest tricks in the book, and also one of the simplest ways to create a relaxed, comfortable ambience. (Image: Inmagine)

2. Handmade Garland

Revamp your plain walls with some garlands that you can make yourself by using some colourful papers and strings. Cut the papers into shapes that you love, link few of them with strings and hang them on the wall or on your doorframe. You don’t even have to buy new colour papers for this, be creative and use anything from old magazine pages to old wrapping papers or gift boxes! (Source) (Image: HomeBeauty)

3. Paper Toppers

If you’re hosting a special birthday bash or anniversary gathering, decorate your cakes or cupcakes with simple paper toppers to highlight the reason for the celebration. Get a box of toothpicks, print out or write your paper topper and use a glue or cellophane tape to stick them to the toothpick. (Image: etsy)

4. Soda/Beer Pool

Did you know that the more often you open your refrigerator door, the more electricity you’ll waste? Chill the drinks for your party in a ‘pool’ to make it easier for guests to grab them without having to walk to the kitchen all the time. Repaint old metal buckets with some fresh colours or decorate plastic buckets with banners or small colourful balloons to have a soda/beer pool that spells out f-u-n! (Source) (Image: Inmagine)

5. Food in the Cup / Glass

Serve your party fingerfood in a unique way: divide your buffet dishes or snacks and fill them in disposable cups or mugs (if you have enough for each guest). It beats your usual buffet trays, and people can mingle and walk around easier with small food cups in their hands. (Image: Inmagine)

6. Drawer Used as Tray

Don’t want to spend money buying new trays? Why not just grab some drawers from your cabinet? Remember to cover the bottom of your drawer with a couple of paper sheets before you place your dishes or snacks. You friends will be impressed with this cool eco-friendly idea! (Image: HomeBeauty)

7. Flower in the Glass / Bottle

Reuse some old glasses or bottles by using them as a vase for your flowers. All you need to do is buy a bouquet of flowers (if you don’t have your own garden), and divide each leaf and colourful flower in old jars, old ketchup bottles, empty mineral water bottles, and more! It’ll make your place look edgy and funky. (Image: Inmagine)

8. Serve Drinks in Jars

Don’t throw your milk or butter jars once you’ve finished them, they could be your lifesaver if you’re out of cups. Using empty jars as glasses will strike the perfect casual chic note for your house party. (Image: Inmagine)

9. Transparent Gift Papers

It’s not only used to wrap your goodies and candies, but if you paste them on your walls, it’s a cheaper way to make them appear artistic and stylish without splurging on new paint. Plus, it could also be a shield to protect your walls from dink or food spills. (Image: Inmagine)

10. Tie It Up!

Don’t throw away your old wine bottles! Wash and dry them before your party. Decorate the empty liquor or wine bottles with some cute ribbons or colourful strings and place them on your dining tables or shelves. (Source) (Image: Inmagine)
