While it’s a good idea to stock up on medication to help heal yourself from common ailments like colds and constipation, it’s still better for your body to opt for what nature has to offer, especially when your ailment is still in its early stage. Here are 10 of some of the most common herbal ingredients out there, and what they can do to heal you!

1. Aloe Vera
Sunburns do not only cause redness, but extreme burns can hurt, too. There’s nothing better than aloe vera to heal burns, and even hospitals use it on burn victims because if its antibacterial properties. If you have the space, grow your own aloe vera plant and just squeeze the gel out of the leaves and apply it on affected areas. You can even consume it with your tea if you have an inflamed throat too!

2. Olives
If you constantly suffer from motion sickness, whether it’s in the car, or the plan, olives are the best natural cure for it! Motion sickness by the body’s production of excess saliva. Olives are rich in tannis, a substance that when released in your mouth, naturally reduces saliva. However, it only works in the early stages of nausea.

3. Peppermint
Peppermint is often associated with toothpaste, but believe it or not, it’s a great herbal aid for improving digestion and to alleviate gas. Peppermint tea is also great to help tone down the bad breath unlike most beverages.

4. Chamomile
Chamomile tea is often recommend just before sleep as it helps calm your body down. But that’s because chamomile is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties that is used to for its mild sedative effect. If you suffer from any abdominal pain or inflammation, chamomile tea can help ease any discomfort.

5. Garlic
Garlic is a miracle cure for everything from cholesterol, acne  and even to cure problems ‘down there’. Garlic has very high anti-bacterial properties and it is known to boost the body’s immune system. Which is why a natural cure for vaginal yeast infections, or any yeast infection for that matter, garlic will surely come to the rescue.

6. Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil has been known to be a “medical cabinet in a bottle’ because it’s known to fight against bacteria, fungi and viruses. A bottle of tea tree oil can help you loosen chest congestion, lessen the symptoms of a cold, destroy head lice, treat dandruff and scalp problems, and even curing yeast infections on the external parts of the body.

7. Papaya
We all love a fresh, tropical papaya to beat the head on a sunny afternoon. But did you know that papaya does more than just quench your thirst and hunger? Papaya contains papain, an ingredient that aids in digestion, so it can help correct any mild bowel irregularities like indigestion, constipation, and acid reflux. Papayas also contains enzyme that protein-digesting enzymes that help give you softer and smoother skin. Just mash a papaya and apply it on dry skin twice a week and see the difference.

8. Ginger
Ginger is a spice with healing properties that have been praised since the dawn of time. On top of being just a great flavor enhancer, ginger’s been used to aid in colds, flus, digestive ailments, menstrual cramps, nausea and even the bedroom blues! So start stocking your pantry up with more ginger and consume it everyday if you have to!

9. Lemon
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade because the weather is hot and you’ll need a thirst quencher all the time. Drinking lemon water in the morning does amazing things for your body – it boosts your immune system with vitamin C, it aids in digestion, balances out the pH levels in your body to ease headaches and inflammation, and best of all, it detoxes the body to give you acne-free skin! Start your day with glass of luke warm water and squeeze half a lemon in it!

10. Honey
Everyone loves honey! Not only do they make a great topping for your pancakes, but it’s also got great anti-bacterial properties. If you have a sore throat or an infected cough, simply take a teaspoon full of organic honey as it’ll disinfect your throat.
