A 24-year-old employee at Ogilvy and Mather’s China suffered a sudden heart attack on May 14 from overworking. Prior to his death, he had been working overtime for a month, not leaving the office until 11pm every day.
According to sources, the employee, named Li Yuan, fell to the ground in his office around 5pm. His coworkers immediately phoned ‘120’ for help and Li was rushed to Peking Union Medical College, but Li didn’t make it. The doctor’s diagnoses was death by sudden cardiac arrest.
On Li’s final Weibo message, he published a photo of himself saluting the camera as he was about leave work for the day. According to a report in the China Youth Daily, nearly 600,000 people die from work exhaustion in China every year.
We hope this is also a lesson to everyone that working so hard that you neglect your own health and family, is not worth it.
