Over 50,000 Malaysians gathered in Stadium Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) on Wednesday night to fight for their rights. A ‘Malaysian Tsunami’ as it was called, brought hope to Malaysians that it’s certainly time for change.
The stadium was filled with Malaysians who disagreed with the results on the 13th General Election, and they made sure the leaders understood them by shouting ‘Reformasi’ (reformation) and ‘Ubah’ (change). The crowd, all dressed in black rallied for a free and fair election. Organized by Pakatan Rakyat, even opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP strongman Lim Kit Sing spoke at the rally. Anwar even made his way to the rally after 10pm on a scooter and was greeted with loud roars by the crowd who chanted “Kami Anak Malaysia”.
Politweet.org, a social media research group estimated a crowd of 64,000 and 69,000. There was no police present at the stadium.
This is truly the act of patriotism. These are Malaysians who do in fact love their country and yearn for a brighter future in Malaysia. Could it be an overwhelming feeling? It just might, but the beautiful part about it all is that everyone is putting their differences aside, and fighting together for their country as one. Even Batman stopped by!
