Multi-talented musician Dennis Lau has released a music video in conjunction with Mother’s Day, titled ‘My Mama Says’. More well-known as Malaysia’s top electric violinist, Dennis shows off his other skills in ‘My Mama Says’, where he plays the piano, sings and raps alongside 8-year-old starlet, Crystal Lee.
The journey to writing this song was also influenced by the relationships between his friends and their mums; seeing how his friends would constantly talk about their parents on social media. “I think it’s very important that we don’t forget the sacrifices our mums have done for us even though we don’t keep in touch with them as often as we used to, or should be,” Dennis said.
Crystal Lee, the eight year old girl in ‘My Mama Says’ music video, is an up-and-coming singer who’s currently being mentored by Dennis Lau. Her weekly vocal lessons with him also served as one of his inspirations. “Crystal comes to the studio every Monday for lessons and I could see how dedicated her mum was, sending Crystal to the lessons and staying throughout the class to guide her. That was the same dedication my mum had for me when I was seven years old – she had to drive me to my weekly violin classes in Ipoh from where we stayed in Teluk Intan, Perak, and the journey took two hours.”
Dennis Lau also featured some of his friends from the entertainment and media industry in ‘My Mama Says’. Celebrities such as Soo Wincci, Nadine Ann Thomas, Amber Chia, Xandria Ooi and more showed their love for their mother through sweet pictures.
