Trashion is exactly what it sounds like, a fusion of trash and fashion. The main idea of trashion is to use old stuff you want to discard. and that you no longer need into something you can reuse. As people become more and more eco-conscious, hence trashion is becoming increasingly popular and has been deemed one of the most influential green fashion movement of all time. Due to this, people think twice before just dumping their unwanted but probably reusable items into the trash instead of contributing to the rapidly growing amount of littering and landfill. They take the time to see if it can be reused to create something beautiful and useful, also with help from websites like Outsapop that is an entire site dedicated to trashion fashion and DIY ideas people can do at home.
The whole concept of trashion that is wearable has also played a key role in affecting the change of heart for many people who previously used to shut one eye when it comes to environmental issues. The thought that recycled materials can also be practical and comfortable, makes an impact to how they contribute to saving the planet as well as being fashionable.
Tons of designers have been getting into it and the local fashion shows around the world are trying to promote more eco-friendly designs that are made out of recyclable items such as paper, aluminium, plastic and old clothes as well. Here are a few of our favourites we’ve seen so far:
Young fashion designer, Jane Tan of Rennaisance College from Hong Kong, showcased her eco-friendly creation made out of recycled materials. This dress is made out of old aluminium cans. The bottom of the cans are cut out and also the can tabs are used to make this dress.
This gorgeous dress was made out of old newspapers and books. How incredibly gorgeous right? Too bad it isn’t practical to wear, or we’d love to be able to wear it out.
Here one that’s super easy and also, such a statement piece! Cutting up old cds (or using the mirror off old disco balls) and gluing them on to old shoes. give them a new life!
