An FBI dog was killed by a shooting-spree suspect, only on his second mission after finishing its training last month.
The 2-year-old Czech German Shepard named Ape, joined the FBI on February 25th after finishing a four-month tactical course. The killer, Kurt Myers was being hunted down by the police with the help of police dogs. Myers was on the run for about 24 hours for torching his apartment in New York, and then went on to kill four people in two shooting separate incidents.
The police were moving in on myers in an abandoned building’s basement when he shot and killed Ape. However, the incident prompted the police to return fire and kill Myers. The police believed that Myers was lying in ambush for officers when he killed the FBI dog.
Ape will be taken to Quantico, Virginia for a memorial at the FBI Academy, where his name will also be added to the memorial wall.
Rest in peace, Ape.
