If there’s a fish missing from a pond, we’d assume it must was eaten by a cat or caught by someone who were fishing. But 2000 fishes missing from a pond? Now that’s something to look at.
More than 2000 fishes which were donated by the Ipoh mayor during an upgrade exercise in September last year have gone missing from Taman Dr Seenivasagam’s Japanese Garden.
“It saddens me that some unscrupulous individuals would steal from the public pond for their own financial gains,” Mayor Datuk Roshidi Hashim said when met at the Japanese Garden recently.
He found out the fishes have disappeared when Ipoh City Council (MBI) staff members revisited the park to organise preparations for the International Water’s Race 2013. The stolen fishes include Japanese carps, red and black tilapia, which he had purchases and donated them to the recreational park last year.
“I wanted my act to benefit the city folk and other park visitors as well. But now, the public cannot even enjoy that,” added the mayor.
Efforts are in place to replace the stolen fishes but he said there were no plans yet to station a guard at the park to prevent further theft.
“Those interested should contact MBI’s Parks and Landscape department for an official arrangement.” he said with faith in Ipoh folk to release the fish into the pond and hope they respect the public property more.
