Most of you already know that cross-training exercises and mediation can help reduce stress and anxiety, as well as making us feel good.
But it looks like you should put tango dancing in your hobbies list now as the research conducted by Rosa Pinniger, from the University of New England reported the sensual ballroom dance was proven to be one of the effective ways to beats depression.
”We found out that tango dance was effective in not only reducing feelings of depression but also the degree of sleep disturbance or insomnia, whereas the other treatments weren’t as effective in normalising such a broad range of responses,” said Dr Rhonda Brown from Australian National University who supervised the research.
The participants in the study were reportedly to suffer from mood disorders and also macular degeneration to measure the effects of tango on them. The participants have formed friendships and volunteered their time to continue dancing with the teacher and dance partners during the research program.
Due to the success of the tango research program, Ms Pinniger set up the Institute of Tango Therapy to allow an expansion of the programs. Ms Pinniger noted that regular commercial tango classes may not produce the same results but Tango teacher Serkan Alasya stated that Argentine tango is an ”introverted dance” which allowed people to express themselves.
This is indeed a great news for all especially those who are feeling down and depressed most of the time. Go take up a tango dancing lesson and you might explore the talent in you!
