Flour
Substitute: Black Beans
How does it work: Flour and black beans are technically from the same food group, but black beans are lower in calories but high in fiber. If you have a cookie or brownie recipe that requires a cup of flour, replace it with a cup of black bean puree.
Butter
Substitute: Mashed avocados
How does it work: There’s a reason why avocado is used as an effective hair treatment – it’s a rich source in healthy fats and oils, and are packed with vitamins. So, if you need a cup of butter, just use avocados instead.
Sugar
Substitute: Apple sauce
How does it work: Apples are natural sources of sugar, and they’re also great for hydration. It’s also delicious and it makes fruit-based baked dishes heavenly delicious!If you’re baking, reduce the sugar content by half, and use about more than half of the apple sauce (according to the recipe). Just don’t forget to cut down on the liquids.
Canola Oil
Substitute: Greek Yogurt
How does it work: Who would’ve thought that yogurt would be the best oil replacement? Greek yogurt is the best oil substitute to give you moist cakes without the fat, and its tangy taste is barely unnoticeable. Simply cup the recipe’s amount of oil by half, and add 3/4 cup of yogurt for every cup of oil you remove in the recipe.
