It’s beginning of a new year, and you know what that means? It’s time for the Award season to start rolling in. The celebration of all the movies, musics and Hollywood happenings is going to go through out the next couple of month. This means that the red carpets will be laid out and the celebrities are putting on their favorite designer dresses and gowns.
We had the chance to talk to a local freelance stylist, Andrea Wong on what she thinks we’re going to be looking forward to this coming season. Take a look at what Andrea Wong has to say about the colours, trends and other fashionable red carpet must-haves:
Q: Who do you think will be the best dressed this year, for this awards season?
A: There are couples of name pop to mind, especially keeping in mind with the big names and big movies of the year. I think Anne Hathaway is a must watch. For big red carpet events she usually stays with who she knows. She has got great working relationship with Valentino. Valentino does amazing red carpet gowns. Lately during her promotional tour for Les Miserables, she has been choosing more fashion forward choices, like Tom Ford outfit, statement pieces like bondage boots. On red carpet event she wore Givenchy couture gown, which is also very beautiful. Another young styler that I think people should keep their eyes on is Jennifer Lawrence. She is the new face for Dior and for me personally, Dior’s Spring/Summer for 2013 was the stand out show of the season. There’s a new designer on board and putting new life into the fashion house. With that partnership, it would be nice to see Jennifer Lawrence in some of the Spring/Summer Dior designs. It will sort of be like a match made in heaven.
Q: Could you give us some make up tips for this coming award season?
A: On the runway and red carpet, you would want to focus on very minimal make up and focus on one strong feature. If you are focusing on your eye, anywhere else has to be a little bit toned down. This season you can always play with colors, especially colors for your eyes. Colors like baby blue and turquoise and green look very hot; if you want to look to the run way for inspirations, one show that stood out was Stella McCartney’s. The model used green liner on the lower lip and the rest of the face is very clean.
Q: Could you give us a few tips on how to look stunning at a party?
A: You can always use highlighter to accentuate the lines of your face, such as on the bridge of your nose just above your cheek bone; you have to find one that works well at night with shimmer. Play with that to accentuate your eyes. If you want to have a red carpet ready or a night time event look, eye liner is a great thing to play with. You can play with the graphic liner, which is sort of like the Kate Moss look as well which will really stand out at night; or you can play with smokey eyes as well and let’s not forget lip colors. This season there are a lot of red lips as well on the runway. Cranberry red is very hot this season, if you like something softer maybe you can go for coral pink.
Q: What are some fashion tips that you could share with us on how to look red carpet ready?
A: For this season there are actually few key trends for you to play around with for red carpet or evening events, such as sewed on embellishment. Not so much of sequins but that kind of huge gem encrusted dresses. Another one would be oversized ruffles and another one would be sheer panel.
