Looking for an apartment is like a new chapter in your life. Whether you’re planning on finishing up your degree or you’re starting a new life with your partner, apartment hunting can be difficult. Here are five simple tips to help you find the right apartment just for you.

1. Location, Location, Location

You may have heard that term a million times, but the reality is that it makes a big difference. Think about the kind of place you want to stay – an upcoming neighborhood or a friendly family neighborhood? If you’re a working adult, look into the traffic situation, or if you’re a student, look for a place where everything is easily accessible.

2. Maintenance and Facilities

Some people are unfortunate where they end up paying very hefty maintenance fees for very little facilities like security or cleaning. Study the maintenance, or ask other people in the area about the reputation of the apartment you aim to live in so you don’t waste your deposit and rent on a place you regret living in.

3. Pet Situation

If you’re moving in with your pet, you may want to look for a pet-friendly environment. Some buildings do not allow pets because of the noise or hygienic reasons. But this also applies if you’re looking for a peaceful and quiet place to live in, because a pet-friendly environment can get a little hectic.

4. Apartment Level

If you’re moving in alone, it is suggested to move up to a higher floor as break-ins generally occur on lower floors. However, rent for higher floors can get a little expensive, so if you have no room to expand your budget, invest in high-security locks, especially for the doors and windows. But then again, if you still feel unsatisfied, don’t risk your life and just look for another place.

5. Building Condition

Old apartments and new apartments share various differences. Apart from the rent, the quality may differ. Older buildings tend to have fewer facilities than new apartments. Look into the amenities you want, and do a survey by asking the neighbors in the area about their reviews.
