Boy meets girl. Girl meets another boy. Boy likes this girl, but girl likes another boy. Girl dates another boy, and boy is left alone. Or in other situations, boy meets girl. Boy’s in love with girl, but girl doesn’t want anything serious.
Welcome to the ‘Friend-Zone’ – a situation where someone likes you when you’re unavailable. Generally, it’s never restricted to the same order listed above, but when it does happen, hearts will be broken and sadness ensues. Here’s our ingenious guide on how to deal with the guy you’re ‘friendzoning’.

Avoid Flirting
When you’re friends with a guy after a long time, a sexual tension naturally grows. Although you don’t necessarily intend to ‘do it’, there’s always going to be conversations with sexual undertones. If you’re trying to maintain a platonic relationship with a guy friend, avoid having conversations that could involve sensitive topics like sex and relationships. This is extremely crucial if you’ve rejected someone who seems to really like you.

Be Honest
When it’s a matter of the heart, honesty may hurt, but at least it gives the your friend enough time to accept the truth and move on with life. It’s the same for you too. Wouldn’t you prefer someone you really like tell you they’re unavailable so you can stop getting your hopes up? It’s the same for men, and just remember that men are also emotionally delicate. Make it clear to them that you’re not available so you don’t send the wrong messages with friendly remarks.

Keep a Distance
Even if you’re really close to your friend, avoid spending a little too much time with him, and always go out with him in a group. Going out just the two of you could spell bad news. One of you could end up doing something silly, so whether or not you have no romantic feelings for this guy, it’s important to have someone chaperone your nights out.

Help a Brotha’ Out
Don’t forget that you can always help set your friend up with someone. Don’t just find the first girl you see with a great personality because the last thing you want is this new girl to friendzone your pal again. Do some research on the girl, find out if she’s interested in seeing someone for a steady relationship.
