Hong Kong popstar, Denise Ho has come out of the closet on her sexuality. This makes her the first openly gay singer in Hong Kong! Talk about making a stance – it wasn’t an easy thing to admit, yet she did and now we see some change happening.
Denise made her statement at the Dare To Love LDBT Pride parade in Hong Kong last Saturday (10th November). There was also a public discussion on the legislation to ensure equal rights for people of all sexual orientations – this is where Denise found it right to say what she needed to say. Stating that she was proud to announce that she was a lesbian. (source)
“Today means a lot to me,” she spoke to the crowd. “The media has questioned me for so many years, but I didn’t think it was necessary to respond to them by labelling myself. But when society is still so full of humiliation towards gays, to remain silent is no longer a choice.” (Source)
She said all she needed to say infront of 4,000 participants, including her parents, actress Hilary Tsui and actor Edmond Leung‘s wife Karen. That’s courage right there!
