Mad Men Season 2 | 25th October @ 10pm | Sundance Channel HD, Astro B.yond (channel 438)
Mad Men is a drama about one of New York’s most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm’s most mysterious but extremely talented ad executives, Donald Draper. It takes place in the glamorous setting of New York City’s Madison Avenue, at the height of its power and prestige, circa 1960. Making this setting real to a 21st century audience meant hiring top talent behind the scenes to design, costume, decorate and prop several vast production sets that would transport viewers to an authentic place and time that existed nearly 50 years ago.
3 Backyards | Premieres 9th October @ 10pm | Sundance Channel HD, Astro B.yond (channel 438)
Seen through a prism of sunlight and glittering leaves, the film peers deep into the private lives of its characters as they embark on journeys that fracture the delicate normalcy of the day. A businessman (Elias Koteas) with marital troubles gets “lost” on a business trip without ever leaving town. A little girl (Rachel Resheff) steals her mother’s jewelry in the morning and finds herself entangled in a web of frightening, adult implications by late afternoon. A well-meaning housewife (Edie Falco) offers her celebrity neighbor (Embeth Davidtz) a lift and the trip detours into unsettling territory. By day’s end, the familiar geography of the suburban landscape has dissolved into a dreamscape where identities are created, lost, and ultimately reclaimed.
Bellflower | Premieres 10th October @ 10pm | Sundance Channel HD, Astro B.yond (channel 438)
Bellflower follows two friends who spend their time building flamethrowers and other weapons in the hope that a global apocalypse will occur and clear the runway for their imaginary gang, Mother Medusa.
While waiting for the destruction to commence, their call to excitement comes unexpectedly when one of them meets a charismatic young woman and falls hard in love. Quickly integrating into a new group of friends, they set off on a journey of betrayal, love, hate, and extreme violence more devastating than any of their apocalyptic fantasies.
The Bang Bang Club | Premieres 11th October @ 10pm | Sundance Channel HD, Astro B.yond (channel 438)
The Bang Bang Club was the name given to four young photographers: Greg Marinovich (Ryan Phillippe), Kevin Carter (Taylor Kitsch), Ken Oosterbroek (Frank Rautenbach) and Joao Silva (Neels Van Jaarsveld), whose photographs captured the final bloody days of white rule in South Africa. The film tells the remarkable and sometimes harrowing story of these young men – and the extraordinary extremes they went to in order to capture their pictures. Robin (Malin Akerman) is their photo-editor, who looked out for them, protected them and made sure their photographs were seen across the world.
I Carried You Home | TV World Premiere on 12th October @ 10pm | Sundance Channel HD, Astro B.yond (channel 438)
This film is a portrait of a contemporary Thai family with two sisters forced to reunite over the death of their mother. The film stars Akamsiri Suwannasuk, Apinya Sakuljaroensuk and Torpong Kul-On. Chantarangkul received a nomination at last year’s Busan International Film Festival for the New Currents Award. The story focuses on the estranged sisters who have not seen each other for a few years, told in an interwoven sequence between the moments leading up to their mother’s death and transporting her body back to her small village.
