Dato’ Lee Chong Wei won the silver medal at last night’s men’s badminton final match against China’s Lin Dan, after an intense 79-minute battle. Malaysians all over the world were united in supporting Lee Chong Wei to beat his longtime rival, and the match left everyone on the edge of their seats as each set was a close call: 21-15, 10-21, and 19-21.
As Chong Wei sank to the ground after the final set, his grief was deeply felt by all of us who were watching him fight for the gold medal. The virtual world was wide awake with congratulatory messages for Chong Wei, and there’s no denying that every Malaysian was proud of him. Our heartstrings were tugged once again as Dato’ LCW tweeted an apology for not beating Lin Dan:
In an effort to thank him for his amazing efforts, tweets poured in for Chong Wei, and the hashtag #ThankYouLeeChongWei quickly became a trending topic in Twitter.
We’re all so proud of you, Dato’, you certainly don’t owe us an apology. You’re a national hero who managed to unite Malaysians across to globe, and you’re the true champion in our hearts!
