“I love roti canai” and “I-Lurve-Rohti- Canaii“ certainly sounds very different especially when you hear someone pronounce it in two different ways.
Yes that is a common problem we all face especially when we have travelled overseas and met new people, we tend to change the way we speak.
But has it ever occurred to you that people could get annoyed with that fake accent that you have just developed?

Fake accents are entirely different from natural accents and people usually can tell the difference whether we like it or not.
Some people do naturally develop accents especially once we have stayed abroad for a couple of years and when they have adapted well into the different environment. It is all a part of the process because if you are a Malaysian who stays in America, then you would need to learn how to talk at a slower pace and eventually after a few years you will become used to the way Americans speak. But at the same time, there are those who can still sound the same even after they left the country for 5 years.

But what do we do to those who develop accents after two weeks of spending sometime in a different country? Well there is an explanation for that as well. Most people who go on short holidays do enjoy talking with an accent after they have returned to get the attention of others.
Many fail to realize that when they do such a thing, people especially your peers find it annoying and they certainly would not have this impression ” Oh my! She visited London.”!
Use the accent wisely to sound confident at a job interview but do not overdo it as it certainly will make you look like a clown at the end of the day.
