Wibbly, wobbly jelly? Big, beautiful balloons? Soft, fluffy pillows? Which of these three best describes your boobs (or pecs)? That’s what Avon is asking women and men from all over the world as part of their #NormalForMe campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Avon has launched a global social media takeover for Breast Cancer Awareness month in order to encourage conversation and understanding on breast health. As the company for women celebrates 30 years of its Breast Cancer Promise, it focuses on driving awareness around early detection because it ultimately saves lives.
In conjunction with #NormalForMe campaign, Avon Malaysia is also having a fundraising campaign featuring a selection of Avon’s best-selling products that includes fragrance, intimate apparel and skincare till the end of October.
The Faces of #NormalForMe Campaign
Firm, Full and Velvety
Right after graduating, Lizz joined Avon as a product executive and soon became one of Avon’s marketing mavericks. In her 11th year with Avon, Lizz was diagnosed with breast cancer and she credited Avon as part of her motivation to get back on her feet.
Lizz has led so many breast cancer campaigns during her time at Avon and although her diagnosis came by surprise, she knew what to do. For Lizz, Avon has supported her to beat cancer and strive to enjoy every single day with her life and family. Lizz then left her job to spend quality time with her family, but she still joins breast cancer events organized by Avon and NGOs.
Soft, Youthful and Feminine
At the age of 25, Hiba received a breast cancer diagnosis. She underwent a variety of treatments, including surgery, chemo, and targeted therapy; all of them led to weight gain from the heavy medicine she was taking, as well as exhaustion, memory loss, and other side effects.
To counter fear, Hiba armed herself with much knowledge to help her in decision-making and controlling her body. Hiba also found a group of young cancer survivors through the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) with the same experience and interest towards survivor’s mental health. After 7 years of battling cancer, she finally found her light and fully embraced who she is through therapy, support and self-love.
Smooth, Light and Comfy
She was 22 and had landed her dream job. But finding a lump on her left breast was shocking news as there was no history of breast cancer in her family. Things changed rapidly and many tough decisions had to be made – on her job and her life-death situation – as she was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer that had already spread to her lymph nodes.
Although afraid, the diagnosis did not deter her from starting her treatment. She went through lumpectomy and chemo. One of the hardest parts of her journey was watching her luscious hair falling off due to the side effects of the medication. She felt like she was losing her femininity – but getting healthier was still her top priority. Not an easy journey, but Navi finds great joy in giving others hope. She dreams of opening a wellness center and a foundation where people can donate to other cancer patients. Navi now describes her life as happy, grateful, content and peaceful.
