Dr Dennis Gross

As much as we all adore and are familiar with the benefits of Vitamin C, there are common myths that are attached to this all-star ingredient. However, our favorite skincare brand, Dr Dennis Gross, is here to break 4 myths about this potent active.

Myth 1: Sensitive skin types can’t use vitamin C

Vitamin C Lactic 15% Vitamin C Firm & Bright Serum

While it’s true that Vitamin C can be irritating to the skin, there are several alternatives that have a smaller amount of the ingredient, and provide the same advantages without aggravating or reddening the skin.

Dr. Dennis Gross Vitamin C Lactic 15% Vitamin C Firm & Bright Serum is an excellent example of this. This strong combination was formulated for every skin type in mind to noticeably minimise indications of sun ageing and prevent future signs from developing prematurely. It contains 15% L-ascorbic acid and a good dose of Lactic Acid to gently exfoliate the skin to help in optimal absorption of actives.

Myth 2: Higher concentrations are better

Vitamin C Lactic Firm & Bright Eye Treatment

A higher concentration may cause discomfort, as well as being less efficient. Sticking to a Vitamin C product with a maximum concentration of 15% is adequate to achieve the optimum effects without sacrificing comfort. This concentration has been shown to penetrate the skin, and when paired with soothing components like ceramides, which improve the moisture barrier, there will be no discomfort.

Dr. Gross deliberately created the Vitamin C Lactic Eye Treatment to carry the intensity of an optimal active product while being acceptable for even the most sensitive region of the face: the eyes!

Myth 3: Vitamin C causes sun sensitivity and should only be applied at night

All-Physical Lightweight Wrinkle Defense

Contrary to popular opinion, Vitamin C does not make your skin more susceptible to sunburn, and in fact, using Vitamin C throughout the day is suggested. It has characteristics that protect your skin from UV radiation, repair current sun damage, and even prevent future harm.

Myth 4; Retinol cannot be used with Vitamin C

Advanced Retinol + Ferulic Intense Wrinkle Cream and Vitamin C Lactic Dewy Deep Cream

Retinol is another skincare ingredient that has recently gained popularity. It is without a doubt one of the greatest skincare inventions of all time, and Dr Gross swears by its efficiency and long-term effects on the skin. Can the world, however, incorporate two of the most potent ingredients in their skincare routines? We believe so.

If you adore retinol as much as we do, there’s no reason to remove Vitamin C from your regimen; the combination of Vitamin C and retinol may be the secret ingredient to getting poreless and radiant glass skin. The secret is to take Vitamin C in the morning and retinol at night, when the skin is repairing itself.

Dr. Gross suggests implementing the sandwich strategy – moisturiser> retinol> moisturiser – while using retinol to seal in moisture and reduce the likelihood of irritation.
