Hey sexy, how’s your Monday going? Listen, if your office work is stressing the sh*t outta you – go grab a coffee, sit down and let’s talk about something less serious, shall we? Have you ever wondered how many people actually buy sex toys? Like, do people buy sex toys like they buy groceries? Or, do they buy a vibrator each time they decide to go shopping?
Well, if there was ever a time that this crossed your mind, then today, your questions will be answered. Here’s the thing – sex toys have continued to surge in popularity, with the global sex toy industry valued at US$30.48 billion in 2021, according to Grand View Research (click to view reports and statistics). And this is expected to expand even more from 2022 to 2030 by approximately 8.4% annually. Bishhh – there’s a bajillion horny peeps out there! Who knew?!
Well then, exactly which sex toy is taking the world of d*cks and Pu$$yby storm? SEX DOLLS! Sex dolls have been the most purchased sex toys among both men AND women. Why, though? Why would these men and women actually prefer sex dolls over human intimacy? First of all, purchasing a sex doll does not necessarily mean that one opts for a toy compared to a living, breathing partner. However, in certain circumstances, men and women tend to lean more towards owning a sex doll.
And the sex doll of today isn’t just any old doll, honey! It has the capability to offer a realistic element to self-pleasure. It’s absolutely mind-boggling how sex dolls are able to satisfy a human’s sexual needs on a realistic level. So, to explore this further, Bedbible carried out and completed a comprehensive study of sex dolls. The study was done by assessing purchasing data from 8 sex doll retailers, and through a survey of 8,000 people to determine their interest in sex dolls.

Anyhoo, one of the major reasons why the sale of sex dolls has been skyrocketing in recent times has been… the Covid-19 pandemic. Yes, love! The brutal two years have led to most men and women, in the US in particular, venturing into the world of sex dolls.
In recent years, when the vast majority of people have been self-isolating, it’s been harder to actually meet a “real” partner. Which is why, during the Covid-19 outbreak, sex doll sales shot up by 75%, making 2020 a sales record breaker, with US$2.86 billion dollars worth of sex dolls sold.
Sex Doll Usage
Are sex dolls used solo, or with a partner? One thing that I have always wondered about is – do these people actually use the sex dolls they buy? I mean, gurrrl, imagine that thing sitting in the corner of the room staring at you, asking you to f*ck it. First of all, where do people even keep their sex dolls?
Worse case scenario: you buy a sex doll and your little niece thinks it’s a giant sized teddy bear and ends up playing with it. Whoo! Good Lord, have mercy on us!
Well, according to the results of the survey from Bedbible:
- 86.8% of people use the sex dolls they buy
- 13.2% do not use the sex doll they have bought (Bish, why then?)
- 13.6 million American men own and have used a sex doll at one point
- 8.6 million women also own and have used a sex doll
- 65% of people who have tried a sex doll use it regularly (65% horny bishes out here)
- Around 20% of people who have tried a sex doll only did it that one time (What? Whyyy?)
Solo Or With A Partner?
Only 50% of sex doll users use the toy during intercourse with a partner. The primary use of sex dolls is for solo masturbation.
What’s interesting is, although 50% of sex doll users use it during intercourse, only 27% have actually discussed this with their significant other.
Why Do People Buy Sex Dolls?
According to the survey, the three main reasons sex dolls are bought are: for sex (solo or partnered), as a gift and for platonic relationships.
And 4% gave other written reasons. Some of them include:
Bought it as a Halloween scare-doll – Ya see, I told you it looked scary!
To create an art piece of sex toys – Okay, da Vinci, I see you!
“I actually don’t know, I just did” – Hats off to you, cause that’s the most realistic answer ever!
How Often Do They Use A Sex Doll?
When someone tells me they own a sex doll, I assume they might ride it for breakfast, lunch and dinner! But here are the actual results:
9% have only ever tried it once
16% have used it every other month
20% have used it at least once a month
10% have used it every other week
25% have used it at least once a week
11% have used it every other day – that’s more like it.
Bedbible also quizzed sex doll users on the way they use the toy in the bedroom. The survey revealed that:
61% use it for solo masturbation, 51% use it during intercourse and 48% use sex dolls during foreplay.
Online search data shows that the popularity of both sex dolls and sex doll brothels grew immensely throughout lockdown, as loneliness increased among people. The searches for ‘sex dolls’ increased by sixteen times the usual rate, and ‘sex doll brothel’ searches increased by eleven times the usual rate.
Speaking of which, Rachel Worthington from Bedbible said:
‘’It was no surprise to see the interest in sex dolls increase throughout lockdown, as people combated against loneliness. It was, however, astonishing to see just how much the interest in these new toys has grown, with searches up by 160%.
‘’I was taken aback by some of the survey results, with 72% of sex doll users not discussing the purchase with their partners. Overall, we hope the study proved valuable in exploring the interest in sex dolls.’’ – Rachel Worthington, Bedbible.
So, there ya have it folks – the ultimate breakdown on sex toys and sex dolls. It was nice chatting with you. Put that coffee down and get back to work, bish!
